Lindsey and Joe met in 2005 when they were both tapped to join a renegade, short-lived secret society at the University of Pittsburgh. Five years later, they’re living together in Washington, D.C. with two street cats named King Julian and Maurice. Lindsey works in disaster response and Joe is a technology consultant, which he says ‘is just as glamorous as it sounds.’
When Lindsey was 17, she bought The Mother Road from a local bookstore in Westerville, Ohio. That pictorial guidebook to Route 66 launched a decade-long interest in the historic highway and a promise to travel its remains once Lindsey was old enough to rent a car. Joe, raised in Oley, Pennsylvania, sees Route 66 as a series of once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and an opportunity to get to know his country better.
Between May 21st and June 4th, Lindsey and Joe will drive from Chicago’s former Sears Tower to the Santa Monica Pier, staying in 14 cities, talking to dozens of highway characters, and chasing the ghosts of The People’s Highway and the spirit of the West. They hope you’ll join them on this blog.
